Geneva's museums, bis
Here's a second one thrown in, just for the hell of it.
I particularly remember one instance of acute frustration at the MAH's dismal excuse for a museum shop: a while ago (may have been last year), there was a great exhibit featuring works by PIcasso alongside David Douglas Duncan's photos of Picasso at work.
Photo Nomad, by David Douglas Duncan, was one of my very first photo books, bought at the shop in the Elysée museum in Lausanne (exellent shop, with a great cafeteria !) on the day of my 30th birthday. DDD was very prolific and covered a huge range of subjects, and this book, Photo Nomad, has some of his Picasso photos. A couple of years ago, I was browsing the second hand book sellers in Geneva, and lo and behold, there was a book dedicated to DDD's Picasso photos. I don't know what possessed me not to snap it up !
Anyway, here I was in the MAH shop after having really enjoyed the exhibition, only to realize they hadn't been bothered to stock any of the several editions of DDD's Picasso photo books ! These would've sold like hot buns, but someone obviously must've felt it inappropriate to pander to mercantile instincts within these walls.
